Exterior shot of the Desolation Hotel in South Lake Tahoe, CA

Desolation Hotel, named for the Desolation Wilderness near which it resides, opened in August 2022 in South Lake Tahoe. This was our home base while we spent several days skiing at the nearby Heavenly Ski Resort, which is accessible by walking 5 minutes to the Heavenly Village and boarding the gondola or taking a shuttle if closed.

Designed for those with exceptional taste, those who stay in the Granite Suite will feel right at home — or even better. The suite was 740 square feet, the perfect size for our family of 4. With a luxurious soaking tub on the private balcony, a fireplace in both the living room and bedroom, and a king-sized bed topped with a cozy, down alternative comforter, plush pillows, and luxurious Frette linens, you’ll need to do nothing but fully relax in this space.

Every room at Desolation Hotel is outfitted with a kitchenette boasting a Bertazzoni range, microwave, disposal, and fridge, as well as a walk-in shower and bathtub featuring Grown Alchemist toiletries, Belkin speakers and wireless chargers, a 55” TV with Hulu + Live TV, curated artwork, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the entire property.

There is a restaurant on-site, and just steps away from our suite – Maggie’s. They offer delicious food and drinks fit for all dietary needs.

We loved our stay at the Desolation Hotel and look forward to coming back.
