A Weekend in Mystic, CT
Lobster Roll at The Harbour House
When most people hear of Mystic, Connecticut they think of Mystic Pizza (from the ’88 movie). I think of Mystic Seaport, the aquarium, and a restaurant where I had the best lobster roll this year. Where did I have it? At the newly renovated Inn at Mystic‘s restaurant The Harbour House. The Harbour House serves fresh, seasonal and local cuisine in a relaxed and comfortable setting, both in and outdoors. The restaurant has a waterfront terrace from which diners can enjoy the gorgeous views of Long Island Sound, a large bar area which offers 24 beers on tap along with an impressive list of signature cocktails, and a cozy area by the fireplace. After dinner we stayed at The Inn at Mystic for the night. The Inn has simple motel-like accommodations and a convenient location. The view from our room was beautiful overlooking the Pequotsepos River.
Tidbit: Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall spent their honeymoon at the Inn at Mystic’s Georgian mansion decorated with antiques and colonial-style furniture.
For breakfast we headed to Kitchen Little on Mason’s Island. The restaurant was packed with locals and visitors all chowing down on large breakfast platters (from omelets to pancakes to benedicts) and sipping on mugs of hot coffee. You can either dine indoors or outdoors while overlooking the Mystic River.
